So, after having Black Seed Bagels on my "To-Do List" for an extended period of time, I finally made it over for some Saturday morning bagel sandwiches. I follow the blog Infatuation on Instagram, and after having seen many pictures of Blackseed's delicious breakfast sandwiches on my Insta feed,  I decided I needed to check it out for myself. I was not disappointed.

I went there with a fellow foodie, and after a healthy debate,  we finally decided on the #2: House Beet Lox, Horseradish Cream Cheese, Radish, & Herb and the #12: Wood Fired Baked Eggs (over medium), Cheddar, Bacon (with the custom addition of avocado). Part of our argument stemmed from the fact that many of the photos of Blackseed's bagels I had seen involved the egg variety over the "smoked fish" variety,  so it wasn't clear to me what the show stopper would be. To be fair, the menu does heavily skew in the lox/whitefish direction, but I digress.

The Good: In short, they were delicious. All of the bagels are hand rolled and made on site - they were chewy and flavorful. I really loved the addition of the pickled radish; it added a great crunch to what is generally otherwise a texturally soft sandwich. The heavy addition of fresh dill was great as well -  something I've never seen on a bagel/lox combination before that paired very well. The amount of cream cheese was also quite appropriate, not overloaded like some places tend to do. The eggs were very moist, even wet, which wasn't surprising given the menu advertised them as "over medium" - gotta love the runny yolks. Level of toasting was perfect.

The Bad: My only criticism would be that the egg sandwich could have used a bit more salt, though I would take this critique with a grain of salt given my affinity for salt in general. When you got a big bite of bacon the salt level was appropriate, but without... The beet cured lox was also delicious, but I had trouble tasting the beet part of it. The horseradish in the cream cheese was also quite subtle; I would have preferred a bit more of a kick. My biggest criticism would be that while the bagel sandwiches were an appropriate amount of food; they were definitely a bit smaller than your average bacon, egg, and cheese or bagel & lox. This combined with the $12 price tag makes me feel like the food is a bit overpriced, but this certainly won't stop me from visiting again in the future. Will definitely be back.
